Case 7: GEA Lab

GEA Lab is the digital transformation practice of GEA – Consulenti di Direzione S.p.A. We support companies across multiple sectors (healthcare, Defence, finance, manufacturing, retail, public administration) in leveraging innovative technologies to improve processes, business models, and competitiveness.

Case Context: The healthcare sector is undergoing a profound digital transformation, with Artificial Intelligence playing a growing role in diagnostics, patient monitoring, hospital operations, and AI digital healthcare companions. In the US, where the innovation ecosystem is particularly dynamic, hundreds of AI-driven startups and technology providers are experimenting with solutions that may shape the future of healthcare worldwide. For GEA Lab, scouting these solutions is a valuable way to anticipate trends and prepare relevant offerings for our European clients. Students will investigate this landscape and build a structured overview.

Case description: The project aims to scout and analyze digital and AI-based healthcare solutions emerging in the US, focusing on their technologies, business models, and potential impact. Students will research startups, scale-ups, and corporate initiatives, and classify them by application area (e.g., diagnostics, telemedicine, hospital operations, patient engagement, adherence to therapy). The analysis should highlight innovation clusters, adoption readiness, and key success stories.
The expected deliverables are: (1) a Healthcare AI Solutions Map that clusters the most relevant solutions by area of application;and (2) a short report with insights on market potential, challenges (e.g., regulation, data privacy, adoption barriers), and recommendations on what could be transferred or adapted to the European market.
